Little knowledge of type 2 diabetes

Three quarters of 200 community pharmacists surveyed for MSD do not believe they know enough about newer agents for type 2 diabetes to carry out a medicines use review in this area. The survey, conducted across the UK in April 2010, found that only 4 per cent and 2 per cent of respondents think they have a thorough understanding of DPP-4 inhibitors and GLP-1 analogues, respectively. The survey also found that a third of pharmacists are not aware of National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidance on these agents.
