2008 was the 300th anniversary of the birth of William Turner,a man who was never afraid to court controversy,and whose'New Herball'was as individual as its author when it was completed in 1568.If you visit the Society's headquarters in Lambeth,you will be able to see an original 1568 edition of Turner's herbal displayed in one of the museum cases in the reception area,the one devoted to"Pharmacy and nature".Turner's herbal,like the herbals by Gerard and Culpeper alongside,are displayed by kind permission of the Society's library,of whose early printed book collection they are a part.
