It is over 50 years since wholesale changes of the magnitude now being proposed in the draft Pharmacy Order 2009 were last made to the regulation of pharmacy. These momentous changes are detailed in the 91 pages of the Order, Schedules and Explanatory Notes, published in early December 2008 (PJ, 13 December 2008, p683). It provides for a totally new regulatory body for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises in England, Scotland and Wales, and possibly Northern Ireland in the future. (However, the regulation of pharmacy technicians in Scotland is under the aegis of the Scottish Government.)
