Pemetrexed shown to improve lung cancer survival

Patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) given pemetrexed (Alimta) maintenance therapy show improved survival, according to research published online in The Lancet (20 September 2009). The study came ahead of updated National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidance, which now recommends pemetrexed as a possible treatment for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC.
