People with newly diagnosed schizophrenia given oral antipsychotics should be offered information about side effects so they can be involved in choosing the therapy that suits their lifestyle,updated guidance from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence emphasises.In guidance published in 2002,NICE dis-,tinguished between typical and atypical classes of antipsychotics,but it has since determined that they are all equally cost effective and there are no major differences in side effects between the groups.
