One-third of the global population, nearly two billion people, do not have regular access to essential medicines, according to the World Health Organization.In addition, the WHO says, the quality and safety of medicines varies greatly, especially in low- and middle-income countries.In January 2005, International Health Partners (IHP) became operational with the aim to "provide free medical aid to all needy peoples of the developing world without discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, religion, age or gender".
