摘要

Higher verbal intelligence is associated with better compliance with taking medicines, a study conducted by the University of Edinburgh and the Medical Research Council suggests, which is due to be published in the journal Intelligence. The randomised, double-blind aspirin for asymptomatic atherosclerosis (AAA) trial enrolled people aged between 50 and 77 years who were at increased risk of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality and who agreed to take 100mg of aspirin or placebo daily for two years. Participants' intelligence was assessed on average about three months into the trial and they were reviewed annually and encouraged to inform the trial investigators if they stopped taking their medicine and their reason for doing so.
