A flavour of future regulation

Readers can now get a flavour of what regulation will be like once the General Pharmaceutical Council gets going. Last week a consultation on new standards for pharmacy practice, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians was launched (p473). Although the consultation came out under the aegis of the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence, it is really being conducted on behalf of the nascent GPhC (which could not undertake it since it has no legal standing yet). This week we carry a four-page centre pull-out on behalf of the GPhC that gives background to the development of the standards, as well as introducing the new members of the council to the profession.
