Health professionals who have patient contact and other priority groups have started to be vaccinated against swine influenza as part of the Government's H1N1 vaccination programme. The Department of Health has written to health professionals, including pharmacists, setting out details of the programme for England, which started in hospitals on 21 October 2009. The number of boxes of vaccine sent to acute trusts will vary according to trust size. GPs are likely to call patients for vaccination from 26 October, when the vaccines are due to start arriving at surgeries (see Panel). The same timings apply to Scotland. Wales also expects to start its vaccination programme before the end of October.
