New Manchester centre to move research into practice

Creation of a new biomedical research centre in Manchester that will drive the translation of medical research into clinical practice has been announced by the Department of Health. The National Institute for Health Research biomedical research centre is one of several across England (PJ, 16 December 2006, p724) that have been chosen to focus on translational research. The ￡35m centre will be run by a partnership led by the Central Manchester and Manchester Children's University Hospital NHS Trust and the University of Manchester. A university spokeswoman told The Journal that the university expects there to be strong links between the trust's clinical trials unit and the university's school of pharmacy.
