Central Asia Influences World Markets

Connections of the European cotton industry and Central Asian cotton go back to the times of Civil War in the United States (1861 to 1865) when deliveries of American cotton to Europe decreased considerably. This caused severe obstacles in the cottonindustry and a great increase of prices. Israel Poznanski Company was the first one in Poland to use Central Asian cotton. This company, and later also others located in Lodz, the Polish centre of the cotton industry, invested a considerable amount of money in ginning mills and imported to Asia seed of American cotton. In the course of time the cotton quality was improved and the growing area was increased.
