What should clinical training be about?

Sarah Willis and Karen HasseU's Agenda article "Where is the place for clinical training" (PJ, 23 August 2008, p216) is interesting, but hardly ground-breaking in its observations and conclusions. Most pharmacists know that community pharmacy preregistration trainees spend most of their time dispensing NHS prescriptions, with only occasional contact with patients, while those who work in hospital are usually all at sea for the first few months but at least they are involved in far more intellectually challenging pursuits that could be called clinical pharmacy.
