Inter-and intra-professional perspectives on non-medical prescribing in an NHS trust

Pharmacists,doctors and nurses have all claimed professional status although the sociological literature shows that the degree of such status varies between them.It has been argued that medicine is a true profession,unlike nursing and pharmacy,because it has achieved a position of dominance,autonomy and self-direction that nursing and pharmacy have struggled to achieve.Medicine is traditionally viewed as being at the top of a health professional hierarchy.
