In 2006 Cotton Council International (CCI) celebrates its 50th year of successfully developing international markets for U.S. cotton fiber and cotton products. Today's global demand for cotton is four times greater than in 1956. At some 16 million bales, U.S. exports now represent 40% of all cotton traded worldwide. Exports are vital to the financial health of the U.S. cotton industry, and we are committed to being the world's most innovative and reliable cotton supplier to domestic and overseas mills. Our industry must outperform our foreign cotton competition. Producers and ginners need to meet our export customers' quality demands. U.S. warehouses need to avoid shipping delays, and merchants must continue to be innovative and preempt our foreigncompetition.
