Anaesthesia-related mortality in sub-Saharan Africa

In response to Gregor Pollach's criticism (Jan 19, p 199)1 that Daniel Bainbridge and colleagues' systematic review2 of anaesthesia-related mortality did not include evidence from lowest-income countries, Bainbridge and colleagues replied that there are "few published studies on this issue from the lowest-income countries". The Lancet has contributed to this scarcity of published studies by not publishing papers from developing countries.
