All health professionals are aware of the health dangers of tobacco smoking but gaps in their knowledge exist when it comes to smokeless tobacco. New guidance from the UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), released last week, aims to fill this void. The guidance focuses on interventions that help people of south Asian origin-the main users of smokeless tobacco-to quit. It covers a variety of smokeless tobacco products used in England such as the powdered misiri India tobacco, paan, and betel quid.
