The 57-year-old from lasi, northern Romania, says she was forced to hand over thousands of euros in bribes to a doctor for care that turned out to be substandard. "The doctor demanded I give him ?200 a week as a bribe for good treatment. I was in there for months and in the end he botched my treatment, I got a severe infection and had to have my leg amputated", she told The Lancet.
