The European Commission remains reluctant to properly equip its forthcoming Horizon 2020 Framework Research Programme1 so that it can tackle research integrity. Although the European Union (EU) research budget was projected to increase from about ?57 billion for 2007-13 to ?80 billion in 2014-20,2the EU executive appears indifferent to the need to protect public Euros from potentially fraudulent research.
