Single mother Fiona Rademeyer's toothless smile spreads across her face as she gazes lovingly at her newborn baby girl tucked warmly against her chest-kangaroo style. Recalling Lekeisha's birth Rademeyer says: "She was so tiny, only 1.6 kg, she needed more help." Lekeisha was quickly assessed and within an hour an ambulance had transferred mother and baby from the Mitchell's Plain Midwives Obstetric Unit (MOU) in Cape Town, South Africa, to Mowbray Maternity Hospital, about 18 km away.
