More than 115 million children aged 5-17years work in hazardous conditions globally, estimate the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in their new report Children in Hazardous Work. The report calls for renewed efforts to ensure children remain in education until the minimum age of work and for strengthened workplace health and safety measures for all workers. According to ILO convention (number 138) guidelines, children can legally engage in light work from age 13 years and in ordinary work from age 15 years; hazardous work is permitted only for adults. The report also endorses the Global Plan of Action on Child Labour's call to eliminate hazardous work, one of the worst forms of child labour by 2016.
