Lasker Foundation honours malaria researcher.

An 81-year-old Chinese researcher, Tu Youyou, is one of this year's winners of the Lasker awards for her research in identifying the extract artemisinin from traditional Chinese medicine that became part of the standard regimen to treat malaria, saving millions of lives around the world.The Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation announced 2011's winners last week and they also included Arthur LHorwich and Franz-Ulrich Haiti for basic medical research. Winners of each category of the Lasker awards, which have recognised advances in medical research for 66 years, receive USDollars 250000. 78 Lasker laureates have gone on to receive Nobel prizes.
