Clinical-trial databases allow researchers to coordinate international studies and continually monitor adverse events. Key to their relevance is freely available and comprehensive data. Why not allow patients to access similar outcomes data to choose the best hospitals and surgeons for treatment? The rationale is straightforward: patients can choose the best option for them, while accountability improves performance of the surgical team and postoperative care.
