Khalif Bile Mohamud: responding to crises and conflict in Pakistan.

As WHO Country Representative in Pakistan, Khalif Bile Mohamud has responded to earthquakes, floods, and conflict in a country where some 8.5 million people have been displaced by disaster or insecurity in the past 5 years. He says the experience gained in natural disasters has helped the UN mitigate the health impact of more complex man-made ones. In addition to humanitarian emergencies, Bile's team also promotes primary health care and immunisation. "Health is an undeclared, sustained war because we are fighting disease and illness and lack of awareness and understanding", the Somali national told The Lancet.
