摘要

Darfur looks set for tougher times ahead, since the expulsion of 13 international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in early March left a void in medical and humanitarian support that looks unlikely to be adequately filled in the near future. The expulsions came at a time when diseases such as meningitis and kala-azar were resurging, and have left some deprived areas with no health facilities at all. And with the environment in Sudan remaining very hostile to international NGOs, it is unlikely that the expelled agencies, or others with similar experience and logistics, will be ready to send staff into some of the most deprived areas in the near future.
