Inside the dimly lit, worn-down paediatric ward at Morogoro Regional Hospital, eastern Tanzania, rows of anxious mothers sit on beds next to their sick children. Most of the infants on the ward have malaria but some are unfortunate enough to have additional burdens such as HIV/AIDS, pneumonia, or anaemia. Today, like most days, there are too many admissions and mothers and children from different families have tosharetheirwoestogetherinasingle bed along with the greying mosquito net that hangs above it.
