Violence and the role of illness narratives.

Although statistical associations confirm that violence affects health, the mechanisms are less well understood. Whilst they constitute the "invisibility of war", the complex social, economic, historical, and political forces in conflict settings obscure the precise pathways through which conflict affects disease patterns. How, for instance, is the transmission, course, and outcome of HIV infection affected by war? How can we best respond to disease amid cycles of poverty and violence?
