In science, an ever-increasing amount of knowledge is being generated by more and more researchers around the world. Where papers were once the products of single authors, research is increasingly being done by multidisciplinary teams.1 Many publications are logged in large, open access, international databases such as the (Social) Science Citation Index and PubMed (Medline) and can be identified with keywords or medical subject headings. The databases have become major sources of information for researchers, clinicians, and other stakeholders. Furthermore, in recent years registration has increased transparency in trial identification.
