In-vivo skills and UK competitiveness in biomedical sciences.

The skills survey in 2005 by the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) in the UK drew attention to science-sector shortages that are relevant to the maintenance of the UK as a competitive place to discover and develop novel drugs. Top of the list was the decrease in scientists trained in in-vivo skills, particularly in pharmacology, physiology, and toxicology. The ABPI and the Biosciences Federation, facilitated by the former Department of Trade and Industry, have published a report about such skills.
