Out of the Doldrums

THE MARKET gyrations of 2008 took their toll on the cotton industry as a whole, and the merchant community in particular. Some companies that predated the Civil War said "enough is enough" and voluntarily closed the door. Others were forced out of business or into bankruptcy.But with encouraging futures prices and the increased acreage that is projected to follow, the industry is starting to pull itself out of the doldrums.
