Two mergers will reshape the make-up of the US CATV industry and the Canadian telecom industry. Inthe US, the FCC approved the merger of three of the US’s top ten CATV companies – Bright HouseNetworks, Charter, and Time Warner. The US$67 billion deal, which had been pending for about a year,will give the new company, to be called New Charter, 23.9 million customers, including 19 millionbroadband subscribers. The company will have operations in 41 states.
