The traditional summer lull appears well and truly over for molybdenum, with renewed customer demand invigorating markets in both the East and West. While much of this can be attributed to restocking, there does seem to be a return of real demand which has helped lift prices in recent weeks. In China, where prices have remained relatively stable, concentrates are fetching RMB 2,060/t, while oxide has climbed to RMB 2,170/t. Meanwhile, the West has seen a significant rise (despite a small dip in the last day or two), with oxide pegged at $15.75/lb and higher, recent reports of offers at $16.25/lb and briquettes changing hands for as much as $16.20-16.30/lb in Europe.
