Editorial Comment: These data are novel. Historically the measurement of serum prolactin during evaluation of erectile dysfunction was frowned on, as the incidence and prevalence of hyper-prolactinemia were quite low. These authors suggest that low serum prolactin is associated with adverse cardiovascular events and sexual dysfunction, providing a rationale to measure serum prolactin. It will be of interest to understand the effects of the treatment of low serum prolactin.
