Editorial Comment: Despite renal cell carcinoma (RCC) being an excellent model for hereditary solid cancer, there are no guidelines on RCC screening or genetic testing, except recommendations on followup of patients with end-stage renal disease and kidney cyst. Germline/somatic alterations may be suspected in those solid cancers arising in younger individuals, especially when clinically specific features that accompany some of the familiar RCC syndromes are observed. However, clinical manifestations are not always evident.
