摘要

The authors document that organisms commonly causing outpatient pediatric UTIs are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics used routinely for UTI treatment and prophylaxis. Antibiotic resistance is becoming a major medical epidemic. In fact, one cannot avoid hearing about the current super-bugs in the lay press and in the medical literature. Despite the increase in antibiotic resistance, few new antibacterial drugs have been released in the last several years and few are in the development pipeline.
