Reply by Authors: At present ureteroscopic lithotripsy is frequently used in the management of ureteral stones with a high rate of success. Many urologists are inclined to place a ureteral stent after ureteroscopic lithotripsy to assist in the passage of residual stone fragments and to reduce postoperative ureteral obstruction. However, the question about stent positioning after ureteroscopy for urinary calculi is still open. More and more randomized clinical trials suggest that placement of a ureteral stent after uncomplicated ureteroscopic lithotripsy is unnecessary. Uncomplicated ureteroscopic lithotripsy should be denned as that with minimal or no ureteral trauma, minimal or no ureteral dilation and minimal or no residual stone burden.
