150,000 bales of Spanish cotton may be exported to Europe or North Africa. After a persistent drought during the last five seasons, in the 1995/96 winter, plenty of rains arrived to the southern region of Spain. The water produced a moderate optimismin the sector, especially considering that the reserves are full enough at least for the next three years. At this moment, the official estimate of sown area is 78,600 hectares, at least twice as much as the 1995/96 crop.
