The Liverpool Cotton Association is in existence to help maintain the standards of trading practice. Its members have sought over many years, and will continue to seek, to maintain the sanctity of the contracting system. They have no authority to place requirements on anyone; instead, they offer a service to buyers and sellers alike. We regulate only by consent of the parties concerned. Not so many years ago, the cotton market seemed like an orderly place, and regulation was fairly easily achieved.
