With cash costs now at around 17-18,000 dollars/t, ferronickel operations such as Falcondo and Sumitomo are also under severe pressure. Ironically, that elusive floor for nickel that investors have been chasing for months looks at last to have been found - and it's not in the less conventional by-ways of the industry, such as nickel pig iron, but in more familiar territory.
