Ferrochrome/Spot prices continue their ascent...

European spot prices have continued to rise. After rapidly increasing throughout last month, high-carbon prices rose slightly in May. Spot material remains very tight in Europe, especially as more ferrochrome continues to be diverted towards Asia. High-carbon spot prices increased 15 cents/lb to average 102 cents/lb in April, and have risen a more modest 2 cents/1b in May to 104 cents/1b. Medium-carbon (0.1 percent) spot prices also rose moderately by 3 cents/lb to reach 135 cents/lb in May. Meanwhile, not much trading has occurred in the low-carbon (0.05 percent) ferrochrome market, although purchasing is expected to pick up towards the end of the month as Q3 negotiations start to get underway.
