Across regions, the molybdenum market in general can be characterised as quiet. Prices for both molybdenum oxide and ferromolybdenum have moved broadly sideways month-on-month generating optimism that prices have reached a floor. Spot-market activity is subdued, and despite a slight up-tick in buying activity, traders and customers alike remain unwilling to purchase large quantities of material and engage in major restocking activity during the seasonally slow time of the year. Western Europe, North America and Asia are all feeling the effects of the shift in consumer buying strategy this year, which limits dependence on spot material and relies more heavily on contract business.
