Plant evolution: the dominance of maize.

摘要

This paper examines how maize could have evolved from the morphologically different teosinte. Consideration is given to the role of the gene teosinte branched 1 (tb1) which controls major differences in architecture between cultivated maize and itswild ancestor. It is suggested that the differences in architecture correlate with different amounts of gene product.
