Sentiment in the market has been boosted by a reduction in charge chrome supply brought about by short-term power buyback's in South Africa and environmental checks on smelters in Inner Mongolia, China (see below for more details). Meanwhile, in the high-carbon ferrochrome market, market players are busy with contract negotiations for 2014. Spot prices of high-carbon ferrochrome have increased by up to 5?/lb on average since our last Monitor - the strongest increase since the start of the year. This has largely been driven limited availability of material, i.e. high-carbon ferrochrome with low silicon, on the spot market.
