Regional high-carbon (HC) spot prices rose due to tight supply and a resumption of demand growth. However European charge chrome Q4 contract prices failed to rise, reflecting the duller fundamentals. The HC market is very tight in Europe, with traders short of material. Thus HC spot prices continued to ascend to average 145 cents /lb delivered in November, although quotes vary greatly, and relate to small volume tonnages. Meanwhile medium-carbon (0.1 percent) spot prices jumped up 19 cents/lb to reach 205 cents/lb, while low-carbon (0.05 percent) material reached as high as 218 cents/lb this month.
