The commodity wide sell-off that occurred in the second week of August following Standard and Poor's downgrading of the USA's credit rating, has had a significant impact on global financial and metal markets. Prior to this announcement, however, sentiment appeared to be improving in the market for ferrochrome as spot prices had started to rise in China at the end of July as large domestic stainless mills attempted to restock from a global market where supply had become increasingly more constrained.
