The release of second quarter 2003 results has revealed the effects of sustained high prices on mine output. Moly production at Phelp's Dodge's (PD) by- and co-product operations increased by almost 20 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2002, to 13.5m lbs. Copper mining at PD was focused on the main molybdenum producers of Sierrita and Bagdad, where copper production increased by a third year-on-year, whilst overall copper production for PD as a whole, increased only slightly. Armenian output rose by almost 6 percent y-on-y to 7.9m lbs in the first half of 2003 and small-scale by-product producer Highland Valley, increased output by 22 percent year-on-year to 0.62m lbs in the second quarter.
