Volcan has confirmed that it has suspended open-pit mining at its Cerro de Pasco operation. First-quarter mill throughput fell by 18.7 percent year-on-year, and zinc- and lead-in-concentrate production fell by 29 percent to 25,366t and by 34 percent to 9,844t respectively. The company appears to have instead devoted more resources to its other operations. Together, mill throughput at all three of its operations slipped by only 0.5 percent year-on-year, and zinc-in-concentrate production actually increased by 1.0 percent to 86,249t. However, given that Volcan's lead output is heavily reliant on Cerro de Pasco, its lead-in-concentrate production fell by 17 percent year-on-year to 21,948t.
