Extrusions: Despite economic volatility, outlook still positive for 2012

This month, during our survey of aluminium extruders, distributors, and their customers, we asked our contacts if the recent turmoil in the financial markets, plunge in consumer confidence, and the dreary economic outlook is changing their forecasts or has reduced demand. To our surprise, a substantial majority do not believe that the overwhelmingly negative news will have much impact on their order book, or on their short or long-term outlook. One contact's comment was typical when he said, "Because of all of the media hype, I have been looking over my shoulder for danger signs. I have talked with our important customers and I haven't found a reason to change our long-term growth forecast. If energy prices spike again, I reserve the right to change my mind."
