A major expansion project at Antamina (Peru) was approved by the local and national governments in late December, and in January the stakeholders announced that the 1.3B US dollars expansion will go ahead. The project is set to increase ore processing by 38 percent to 130,000t/d, and extend the mine life by six years to 2029. Due to this and an anticipated increase in ore head grades, CRU expects copper-in-concentrate production to increase from 338,000t in 2009 to around 500,000t by 2013.
