It was announced on 27th July that Ok Tedi Mining Limited is preparing to temporarily shutdown operations at its Ok Tedi copper-gold mine in Papua New Guinea as a prolonged period ofdry weather is making access via the Fly River unreliable due to low water levels. River trafficinto and out of the Kiunga river port has been reduced for a number of weeks, depleting dieselstocks and hindering the replenishment of food stocks.
