Price kicks off 2014 on 7-month high

Following on from December's uptick for copper, the LME 3-month price has remained buoyant so far this year - and as of 22nd January the monthly average is the highest since March 2013. Investors appeared to be showing renewed interest in commodities: Data from the CFTC indicated that the longs for managed money positions on Comex rose steadily through December, culminating on 31st December with the most extended position since 2006 (where CFTC records in their current form date back to) of 55,831 long contracts.
